Coronavirus: Noticing more grey hairs? Could be due to COVID infection

“Though losing hair can be scary, I always reassure patients that they won’t go bald from COVID-related shedding,” Dr. Helena Kuhn, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, told Self magazine. “Typically, the best thing to do is simply wait it out.”

In the meantime, practicing healthy hair habits may help in speeding recovery and preventing any additional hair loss. Make sure you do not tie your hair in a fashion – such as a bun or high pony – that may lead to hair fall and breakage. Avoid heat styling or any harsh products for shampoo, conditioning, mask or serum. Avoid going for hair colors or smoothening or any other treatment, at least till your hair loss stops.

Since stress is one of the primary causes for hair loss, thinning or greying, you need to take time out for yourself and reduce your stress levels, if any. Some of the ways to help manage stress include practicing self-care routines, meditation, breathing exercises and consulting a therapist.
